The Interior Design Society (IDS) was founded in 1973, and is the largest design organization exclusively dedicated to serving the residential interior design industry. Membership in The Interior Design Society attests commitment to excellence in the field of residential interior design.
IDS is an association comprised of residential interior designers; interior decorators; design-oriented home furnishings stores and their staff; design studios; select manufacturers and distributors of design oriented products or services. Individual membership levels are based on education and/or work experience. Studio, Store and Trade memberships are open to companies based on the quality of design offered in their products, displays and customer service. Students of interior design are also welcome to join the Society, as are home furnishings salespeople who desire to advance their knowledge of interior design or interior decoration. For complete details on all levels of membership click on "How to Join IDS" on the menu bar. To download an application form click on the "Join IDS" button at the top of that page.
The Interior Design Society rests firmly in a commitment to education and information for its members. IDS stages a number of programs and makes available a variety of publications to strengthen members' knowledge of the interior design profession and related topics. Educational conferences, seminars and tours of historic sites noted for their art, architecture and interior design contribute significantly to members' continuing education. For complete information on upcoming seminars and events click "Events Calendar" on the menu bar.
Our association benefits include a designer referral service for the consumer, ready access to professional interior design products, publications, educational materials, programs, and services developed specifically for the residential interior design trade. Click on "Designer Resources" for a list of benefits and links to other websites offering designer services.
The IDS Message Board includes 8 forums of interest to the residential interior design industry. Designers and Decorators can pose questions or answer queries from others in the field, review current and proposed state legislation affecting interior design, and read select articles from both IDS newsletters -- Portfolio and Design for Success. IDS members may post their resumes, business level members may post classified ads, and IDS Manufacturer Members may post special offers and promotions.
In a continuation of its service as the eyes and ears of the residential interior design industry, IDS maintains a strict vigil on legislative issues which would affect an interior designers' right-to-practice. The Society monitors the industry's changing climate and keeps members abreast of changes and situations that could affect their professional future. Legislative information and notifications are posted on the IDS Message Board under the "Legislation Updates" topic.
