The Interior Design Society requires that its members be of good character, seek high standards, maintain business and professional integrity and display imagination and creative ability. All members conform to the following philosophy, making these characteristics representative of membership in the Society.
The Interior Design Society member performs professional services in a manner reflecting the highest standards and integrity. The IDS member properly serves the interest of firm and customer equally with competence, enthusiasm, fairness and prompt fulfillment of all obligations to the firm and customer.
The IDS member exhibits conduct crediting the profession and the name and reputation of the firm at all times.
The Interior Design Society member recognizes the professional interdependence of the designer, store and customer. The member serves the employer/employee relationship with loyalty and goodwill. The member does not discredit any other designers, members, firms or competing products, nor make any statements injuring the personal reputation of any person with whom he may have a professional relationship.
Members are obligated to encourage qualified young persons who wish to study Interior Design, offering as much time and effort possible to assist them in seeking proper training and establishing personal objectives.
The IDS member acquires additional training and education and contributes to the training of others, whenever possible.
If elected to office or given another assignment, the IDS member serves with enthusiasm and good judgment. If unable to serve, the member will make every effort to contribute to the overall good of the Society in other ways.
It is the obligation of all members to assist in the maintenance of the Society and its high standards for the membership. This includes maintaining a current position regarding payment of all fees and reporting any violations or deviations from proper practice of the profession in order to protect the good name and reputation of the Society.
All persons and stores applying for membership agree to this code. Any member, officer or chapter reports violations in writing to the Society's Board of Directors. Persons accused of violations are given at least 10 days notice of any hearing or review of the charges. The decision regarding disposition of such charges is made by the National Board of Directors and is considered final.
