Individual IMPACT Awards

1st place: Shayla Copas, Shayla Copas Interiors
Little Rock, AR

The Arkansas Governor's Mansion has a non-profit association that raises funds for the beautification and preservation of the interiors and grounds.  Shayla Copas Interiors donated design time to the non-profit and provided product at our cost with no profit.   This allowed the Mansion Association the ability to utilize a firm with knowledge of historical and luxury interiors.  Our services included the formal dining room, living room, and the outdoor spaces, taking 1 1/2 years to complete. The Governor's Mansion is considered a coveted "jewel" and the beautification of the estate is important to our citizens.

Shayla's favorite memory of this project was the day she and her team were installing the drapery.  A 4th-grade class was taking a tour, and a little girl looked up at the drapery and said to her teacher, " this room is magical, I wish I could live in the Governor's Mansion."  The young lady then asked Shayla questions regarding the drapery and our "magical" project.  The sparkle in her eyes and her questions made her realize what an "impact" this historical design will have on our youth and the many other generations who tour or use the mansion throughout the years.

The Mary Brennan INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network), Long Island, NY

The Mary Brennan INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) made a plea for help with a project that they wanted to bring to fruition.  The INN is a not-for-profit organization on Long Island that provides food, shelter and many other services, in a dignified and respectful manner to those in need, with a no questions asked policy.  They serve hundreds of meals per day in a large dining room, with a very mixed population; men, women, children - many with substance abuse and mental health issues.

It was the dream of The INN to have a space, separate from the main dining area, to serve those who come with children.  They also wanted to host meetings in the space.  They had an under-used storage area adjoining the main dining room, which we converted into the Family Dining Room.  We solicited numerous donations; flooring, countertop material, custom tables, paint, cabinetry and AV equipment.  It is now an inviting space with a children's play corner, complete with inspirational quotes on the walls, in English and Spanish.  The Inn representatives are beyond thrilled with the result!  On December 6, 2016, they hosed a ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling of the space.  It was attended by 165 people, including contributors and supporters of The Inn, community leaders and the local TV station, which covered the event in their evening news broadcast.  They are now serving the families of the community warm meals in a peaceful environment, surrounded by beautiful words and positive energy!
